Raúl Pagès Debuts the RP2
03 Apr 2025 · 5 min read

The RP2, the latest from independent watchmaker Raúl Pagès, follows his recent recognition as the inaugural winner of the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives — a biennial award established to support contemporary watchmaking through technical, artistic, and humanistic excellence. The prize affirmed Pagès’ standing as one of the most focused voices in independent horology today. The RP2 builds on this momentum, introducing a new in-house calibre and a case that’s slightly larger and more refined in detail. As with all of Pagès’ work, the emphasis is on proportion, function, and long-term clarity — not spectacle.

38.5MM 316L Stainless Steel Case

The case measures 38.5mm in diameter and is made from recycled 316L stainless steel — an unusual choice at this level, but one that’s both deliberate and aligned with Pagès’ ongoing focus on sustainability. The steel is finished with a high-grade satin brushing, executed to exacting tolerances. The slim profile and narrow bezel keep the visual weight of the watch low, while the lugs flow naturally into the case, avoiding hard transitions. On the wrist, it sits cleanly and without excess.

White Agate Stone

The dial is structured in layers: a central disc and sub-seconds counter made from white agate stone, set against a deep blue base. The stone has a matte translucency that plays off the polished steel and brushed dial surface. The typography is minimal — slim, printed Roman numerals that feel present but not ornamental. The result is a dial that offers visual depth, but avoids unnecessary detail. It's legible, balanced, and clearly built to age well.

Calf Leather Strap

The watch is delivered on a soft calf leather strap in navy or grey, paired with a pin buckle signed discreetly. The strap complements the rest of the watch — matte, tonal, and unfussy — and allows the dial’s texture and geometry to remain central to the experience of wear.

Final Thoughts

There’s no overt statement being made with the RP2 — and that may be its strongest quality. It’s precise, quiet, and fully resolved in form and intent. For collectors drawn to the measured and the understated, it offers something rare: a time-only watch that speaks clearly, without saying too much.
