The Story of Parisian Tailor Camps de Luca

The Hour Glass unveils the next chapter in The Lives of Artists, a film series that celebrates the world’s foremost creatives, artisans, and independent artisanal watchmakers. This latest instalment spotlights Camps de Luca, the revered Parisian tailoring atelier established by Joseph Camps and Mario de Luca. Produced by The Hour Glass, the series intimately portrays visionary artisans, showcasing their dedication to craft, tradition, and innovation.

As a Parisian institution in bespoke tailoring, Camps de Luca represents a rare blend of Italian and Spanish influences perfected with French precision. Since its founding in 1969, each garment crafted by Camps de Luca embodies meticulous craftsmanship, upheld by a legacy that adapts and evolves with each new generation.

Reflecting on this heritage, patriarch Marc de Luca shares:

My father, Mario, always said, ‘Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano’—Gently, with maturity, step by step, his path will be long. That’s what represents the transmission between my father, myself, and my children.
Marc de Luca

This philosophy of patient mastery and generational wisdom is at the heart of Camps de Luca’s story, one defined by an enduring commitment to quality and artistry in every stitch.

As part of The Lives of Artists series, the portrait of Camps de Luca joins a lineup of inspiring creatives featured by The Hour Glass. Previous chapters have highlighted figures from Rexhep Rexhepi of Atelier AkriviA to Sir David Adjaye and Oki Sato, each exploring the journey, vision, and dedication that define these remarkable individuals. Through this series, The Hour Glass seeks to bridge the worlds of horology, art, and design, emphasizing the cultural significance and artistry that unite them.

The second short film further explores the shared values and commitment to craftsmanship between Camps de Luca and The Hour Glass.
