The Calatrava collection has always embodied the idea that less can be more. With the introduction of Ref. 6196P-001, Patek Philippe revisits this philosophy through a platinum case, a warm rose-gilt dial, and subtle architectural updates that refine the design without departing from its foundations.

This latest addition builds on the legacy of models like the Ref. 5196, offering a slightly larger 38mm diameter and a modernised movement within. The proportions remain lean — just 9.33mm thick — and the overall aesthetic stays true to the Calatrava’s lineage: clean, understated, and purposeful. A discreet diamond at 6 o’clock on the caseband confirms the platinum construction, in keeping with the brand’s signature.

The dial, in rose-gilt opaline, is restrained yet elegant. Anthracite white gold is used for both the applied obus-style hour markers and dauphine hands, offering a soft visual contrast. A small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock completes the composition, providing subtle movement without disturbing the symmetry. The tone-on-tone quality of the dial adds warmth while preserving legibility, making the design feel tactile but not ornate.

The manually wound calibre 30-255 PS powers the watch. Introduced in 2021, this movement combines slim dimensions with performance and robustness — offering a 65-hour power reserve and a stop-seconds function for precise setting. It’s visible through the sapphire caseback, where its dual barrel layout and traditional decoration reflect the balance between engineering and aesthetic restraint.

In line with the model’s pared-down design, the strap is kept classic: chocolate brown alligator leather with a platinum prong buckle. The overall pairing is timeless and adaptable — a quiet reminder that simplicity, when done well, doesn’t require embellishment.
The Ref. 6196P-001 is a Calatrava that leans into proportion, clarity, and craft. Its 38mm platinum case frames a rose-gilt opaline dial with applied markers and sharp leaf hands—everything in service of legibility and balance. The manually wound movement reinforces its practical, purpose-built character. It’s a watch defined by precision and restraint, not embellishment.
