At Watches and Wonders 2025, Patek Philippe revealed a refined update to one of its most technically admired chronographs: the split-seconds Ref. 5370. Now presented for the first time in rose gold, the Ref. 5370R-001 is not a reinvention — it’s a measured evolution. One that enhances colour, material, and surface treatment without disturbing the watch’s original intent.

The split-seconds chronograph has been a longstanding cornerstone within Patek Philippe’s grand complication offerings. First introduced in this format in 2015, the 5370 series is notable for its use of a manually wound calibre with classical architecture and subtle mechanical advances. This new reference continues that lineage, now executed in warmer tones and with greater visual depth.

41MM ROSE GOLD CASE

The rose gold case measures 41mm and features a concave bezel paired with satin-brushed recessed flanks. The profile is assertive but not heavy, and the mix of polished and brushed surfaces adds a level of detail that rewards close viewing. Despite its technical complexity, the watch retains a balanced silhouette, aided by short, curved lugs and a height of just over 13mm.

Brown Grand Feu Enamel

The standout feature here is the dial — rendered in brown Grand Feu enamel, with subdials and a tachymeter scale in beige champlevé enamel. Applied Breguet numerals in rose gold and leaf-shaped hands with a luminescent coating maintain a traditional aesthetic, while the overall palette brings a warmth not seen in the platinum variant. As a display layout, it remains clear and functional: elapsed minutes on the left, small seconds on the right, and chronograph hands arranged centrally.

Calibre CHR 29-535 PS

At the heart of the watch is the CHR 29-535 PS movement. A classically constructed calibre featuring column wheel control and a horizontal clutch, it incorporates six patented innovations to improve performance, reliability, and ease of service. A seventh patent addresses the isolator mechanism for the rattrapante function, ensuring that energy is preserved when the split-seconds hand is stopped. The movement offers a 65-hour power reserve when the chronograph is disengaged, making it as functional as it is technically elegant.

Dark Chestnut Alligator Strap

The watch is paired with a dark chestnut alligator strap, completed with a rose gold triple-blade fold-over clasp — newly introduced this year. It wears comfortably and secures confidently, adding to the overall sense of considered refinement.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Ref. 5370R-001 offers a warmer, more tactile interpretation of the split-seconds chronograph. Its updates are restrained, preserving the proportions and display that have defined the reference since its debut. The result is a continuation of a well-regarded design, with subtle shifts in tone and material.
