Watches & Wonders 2025: TAG Heuer and the Art of Solar and Speed
02 Apr 2025 · 9 min read

At this year’s Watches & Wonders in Geneva, TAG Heuer reaffirms its position not only as a brand steeped in heritage but as one consistently charting a forward-thinking path through modern horology. The latest releases reflect a thoughtful evolution—each model not merely a new wristwatch, but a product of continuous inquiry into performance, aesthetics, and purpose. These novelties speak to collectors who appreciate engineering depth, as well as to those drawn to clear, honest design.

From a radical reimagining of the Monaco to the quiet strength of the Carrera Day-Date and the sustainable cadence of the Formula 1 Solargraph, TAG Heuer’s 2025 unveilings form a cohesive narrative—one centred on the fusion of technical excellence and human experience. Completing the collection is the return of a detail that exemplifies the brand’s storied past: the beads-of-rice bracelet.

Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph

The watch features three distinct ceramic pushers (chrono start/stop at 2 o’clock, reset at 4 o’clock, and rattrapante at 9 o’clock)

In celebration of its return as Official Timekeeper of Formula 1, TAG Heuer introduces the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph|F1—a technically ambitious creation that revives one of the most intricate complications in mechanical watchmaking: the rattrapante. At the heart of this complicated creation lies the Calibre TH81-00, an automatic split-seconds chronograph movement.

The 41 mm case is rendered in white sandblasted ceramic, with angular pushers and a polished full sapphire caseback offering a clear view of the movement within. Ergonomics are enhanced by the sculpted pushers and the refined tactile response of the split-seconds mechanism. The dial is red-tinted and translucent, revealing a vibrant racing-inspired aesthetic.

The TAG Heuer shield appears at 12 o’clock in red and green lacquer, while the Formula 1 logo is subtly placed at 6 o’clock. Completing the watch is a white calfskin strap with textile embossing and red hand-stitching, secured by a grade 5 titanium butterfly folding clasp.

Formula 1 Solargraph

On non-steel models, the lugs, case mid-section, and bezel are moulded in one continuous bio-polyamide form

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph reintroduces a classic design with purposeful updates: a compact 38 mm case, ergonomic refinement, and the solar-powered Calibre TH50-00. Engineered to harness both sunlight and artificial light, the movement powers a full day from just two minutes of sun exposure, with up to 10 months of autonomy on a full charge. Its 15-year battery lifespan ensures long-term dependability.

Models are crafted in sandblasted steel or TH-Polylight bio-polyamide, with a bidirectional bezel delivering tactile precision. Dials come in opaline white, black or blue, accented by luminous indexes and vibrant flange colours—mainly red, green, blue, yellow, and black—that nod to the original 1986 collection. Each piece features Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Options include steel bracelets, rubber racing straps, and DLC-coated buckles, offering a versatile fit across the range. The Solargraph reflects TAG Heuer’s commitment to practicality, innovation, and design clarity—built for daily wear, with the reliability to go the distance.

Carrera Date Twin-Time

The inner track is divided into light and dark sectors to indicate daytime and nighttime hours at a glance

The TAG Heuer Carrera Date 39 mm Twin-Time introduces an added layer of function to the collection, offering a clean and considered dual-time complication for the internationally minded.

Maintaining the collection’s streamlined dimensions, the 39 mm steel case houses the Calibre TH31-03 automatic movement, visible through a sapphire caseback. The dial—available in sunray brushed teal with a silver and green teal flange—features a 24-hour scale and an additional GMT hand in red lacquer, enabling clear tracking of a second time zone.

Sleek and legible, with applied indexes and Super-LumiNova accents, the Twin-Time balances visual precision with practical capability. Whether navigating time zones or simply appreciating the added utility, this Carrera is crafted for those who move with purpose.

Carrera Day-Date
WW25-TAG-Heuer-Carrera-Day-Date
Each Carrera Day-Date model is fitted with a brushed stainless steel bracelet that articulates through shortened lugs

The TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date 41 mm returns with a renewed focus on clarity, proportion, and everyday practicality. Drawing on the Carrera’s long-standing design language, this latest reference refines a historically significant function within the collection.

The stainless steel case measures 41 mm, offering a balanced profile for daily wear. The TH31-02 calibre powers a display of hours, minutes, seconds, along with the day-date indication at 3 o’clock, all visible through a transparent sapphire case back. A curved sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment ensures uninterrupted legibility.

Dial options include black opalin or with a grained texture, sunray brushed blue, and a newly introduced smokey red opalin finish—each paired with faceted, rhodium-plated or 18K 5N rose gold-plated and polished hands and applied indexes; all treated with white Super-LumiNova for legibility across light conditions.

Beads-of-Rice Bracelet

The seven-row steel bracelet features alternating brushed and polished links, with a double safety clasp engineered for fluid articulation and secure fit

First introduced in the 1960s, the beads-of-rice bracelet became a defining feature of the TAG Heuer Carrera—a design admired for its fine articulation and ease on the wrist. Today, the bracelet returns in a contemporary reinterpretation that balances heritage cues with modern construction.

This refined seven-row design, now configured with a single central row of rounded links, enhances both comfort and aesthetic clarity. Finished in fine-brushed and polished steel and paired with a folding clasp engraved with the TAG Heuer shield, it will be offered on four Carrera Chronograph models, reaffirming the Maison’s commitment to timeless design, carefully evolved.

Final Thoughts

TAG Heuer’s novelties at Watches & Wonders 2025 are a clear expression of the brand’s enduring ethos: to challenge convention, to elevate performance, and to create with intent. Each new release—from the technically ambitious Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph to the solar-powered Formula 1 and the refined Carrera Day-Date—demonstrates a consistent commitment to innovation rooted in utility, and design informed by purpose.
