Baltic has steadily grown its presence in the watchmaking industry and has only gone up from here on. Having been around since 2016, the French microbrand has since made a name for itself with its designs that drew inspiration from the history of Swiss watchmaking. In conjunction with the Watches of Switzerland 60th Anniversary, Baltic has created a new version of one of its more popular pieces, the Tricompax.

However, the story of Baltic dates back even further to 2005 when its founder, Etienne Malec discovered his father's watch collection as well as his diary, which he had used to keep track of all the watches that had crossed his path during his lifetime. This set Etienne down the path of horology with an approach to modern watchmaking from a different perspective. The brand name also holds a special meaning to Etienne as it refers back to his father's roots on the northern coast of Poland.

This isn't the first collaboration Baltic has had with Watches of Switzerland. Its first-ever partnership saw the introduction of the Baltic MR01 in two sophisticated shades to complement the model's clean lines. Despite already being one of the brand's more prominent models with both the Panda and Reverse Panda, this new Baltic Tricompax will feature an all-new colourway in a jungle green shade.

This is notable from the moment you look at the dial of the watch, which draws some resemblance to the Reverse Panda. What's evident is the light-beige guilloche sub-dials but with a jungle green dial instead of its semi-gloss black shade. Also on the dial are three sub-dials that include a 3-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and a 60-second counter at 9 o'clock.

Powering this chronograph within the Baltic Tricompax is the Sellita SW510-M mechanical manual movement that also has a power reserve of 53 hours alongside a 50 m (5 ATM) water resistance. Aside from its jungle green dial, look out for the red accents found on the tip of the seconds hand as well as on the aluminium tachymeter bezel at the 60-second mark.

The design of the Baltic Tricompax drew inspiration from its adoration for motorsports, particularly during its golden age with the chronograph showcasing a tribute to the legacy of automobiles since the 1960s. This design now sees the watch fitted within a 39.5 mm 316L stainless steel case with a thickness of just 13.5 mm.

There is also a double-domed sapphire crystal glass with an internal reflective coating, which gives you a clear view of the polished steel dauphine hour and minute hands with triangular markers on the railroad. Super-LumiNova BGW9 also makes an appearance in the watch to provide greater readability in the dark.

The spirit of the 70s also makes an appearance as the Baltic Tricompax drew direct inspiration from it, which is evident in the bracelet of the watch. The comfortable flat link metal bracelet features brushed and polished steel to ensure it rests comfortably at the curvature of the one's wrist with its fine and flexible links.

The Baltic Tricompax commemorative piece for the Watches of Switzerland 60th Anniversary could be one that many collectors and enthusiasts look out for, given the similar value of its predecessors like the Tricompax Panda and Reverse Panda. The first 200 sold for both watches had their number engraved in the middle of the case back.
