Road bicycle racing is an arduous sport that requires only the most stable and resilient of mind and body to power through. The same can be said for the all-new Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition”, engineered specifically for the Tudor Pro Cycling Team riders. The cycling-themed chronograph was created with the idea of lightweight and functionality in mind to match up against the extreme demands of a professional cyclist.

It wasn’t until April 2022 when Tudor took over the naming rights of the formerly known Swiss Racing Academy after retired professional, Fabian Cancellera took ownership. The time trial and classics specialist soon brought Tudor into the fold and the team has been known as the Tudor Pro Cycling Team ever since, having competed in multiple races over the last couple of years.

A Carbon Copy, It Is Not

The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition” is made out of a carbon composite, much like the bicycles the cyclists use.

To match the expectations of the professional cyclists it sponsors, Tudor created the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” with a carbon composite case to match the material that made up the bikes its riders race on. This isn’t the first time Tudor has chosen to use carbon fibre as part of the Pelagos’ case and it wouldn’t be its last. The last time Tudor utilised carbon fibre that wasn’t part of the Pelagos collection was way back in 2005 with the Hydronaut where you will find it on the dial instead of the case.

The carbon composite 43 mm case has a 60-minute fixed scale on the bezel that connects with the domed sapphire crystal. It also features a black matte finish with fixed strap bars, which will accompany the single-piece fabric strap. This is seen as one of Tudor’s hallmarks as they were one of the first brands to introduce the single-piece fabric strap on its watches. The 22 mm solid black jacquard-woven technical fabric with a traditional buckle was created by the Julien Faure company on 19th-century Jacquard looms to give it a certain uniqueness when it came to comfort and robustness.

Built with Racers in Mind

The Tudor Pegalos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” was created in conjunction with the Tudor Pro Cycling Team.

And holding it all together is the Manufacture Calibre MT5813, which powers the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition”. A chronograph at heart, it showcases hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as a date function and comes complete with a signature tungsten openwork monobloc rotor. There is also a 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a small seconds hand at 9 o’clock, and an instantaneous date window at 6 o’clock with rapid adjustment. The watch also has a power reserve of up to 70 hours with a silicon balance spring while also being Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) certified.

But it’s the dial of the watch that receives the most action with a matte-black finish to go with red accents across its face for greater legibility, a homage to the Tudor Pro Cycling Team’s colours. The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” also bears the Manufacture’s signature square hour markers and snowflake hands, fashioned from luminescent ceramic composite for optimal clarity in the most challenging of conditions. The circumference of the dial is printed on a 45°-angled rehaut with a re-calibrated tachymeter scale where the inner ring places emphasis on the speeds cyclists usually ride at.
