Girard-Perregaux continues to expand the design vocabulary of the Laureato collection, introducing two new 38 mm references that combine architectural harmony with the refined mastery of gem-setting. These models are not mere variations, but rather horological compositions where light, proportion, and material come into alignment — each one drawing from the Maison’s long-standing dialogue between craftsmanship and innovation.

With its octagonal bezel now serving as a canvas for Métiers d’Art, the Laureato 38 mm steps further into the realm of contemporary watchmaking, revealing what can happen when form is enhanced by a play of light and texture.

Laureato 38 mm Baguette-Cut Diamond Bezel

The diamond-set bezel transforms structural form into a play of light, articulating clarity through meticulous gem-setting.

This interpretation of the Laureato 38 mm reaffirms Girard-Perregaux’s command of both design architecture and high jewellery craft. Its defining feature is the bezel, which is adorned with 32 custom-cut baguette diamonds totalling approximately three carats. Each stone is channel-set with an invisible technique, and the bezel itself has been specifically engineered to accommodate the subtle variations in the shape and dimensions of baguette-cut stones.

The dial is crafted from solid white gold and features a traditional Clous de Paris guilloché pattern. Notably, this edition removes all text between 4 and 8 o’clock, allowing the dial’s intricate texture and finishing to speak without interruption. The GP logo and hour markers are also formed in white gold, matched with baton-style gold-plated hands that are filled with luminescent material emitting a crisp white glow.

This model is housed in a 38 mm stainless steel case with a height of 10 mm. The steel case and bracelet are finished with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, accentuating the Laureato’s sharp lines and geometric profile. The bracelet is integrated for ergonomic comfort and visual continuity. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment protects the dial, while the exhibition caseback also features sapphire glass, offering a view of the finely finished mechanical movement within. The case is water-resistant to 100 metres.

Internally, the watch is powered by the GP03300-2563 automatic movement. This in-house calibre features a pink gold oscillating weight decorated with circular Côtes de Genève, accompanied by straight Geneva stripes on the bridges, hand-polished bevels, circular graining on the mainplate, and gilded engravings. With 218 components and 27 jewels, the movement delivers a power reserve of at least 46 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The bezel’s seamless transition from brilliant-cut diamonds to deepening blue sapphires echoes the dial’s quiet complexity

For those drawn to colour and tonal nuance, this second variation of the Laureato 38 mm offers a compelling chromatic interpretation of the Maison’s hallmark design. The bezel is set with a gradient of brilliant-cut stones, beginning with ten diamonds totalling approximately 0.177 carats and transitioning into forty-six sapphires amounting to approximately 0.798 carats. Together, they create a smooth progression in tone — from a soft blue near 6 o’clock to a deeper hue that culminates near twelve — while also increasing in size toward the corners of the octagon, enhancing visual symmetry and volume.

The rhodium-plated dial is engraved with a Clous de Paris motif and enlivened with subtle blue dial text, creating an elegant echo of the bezel’s tonal flow. Rhodium-plated baton-style hour markers and hands, each treated with white-emission luminescent material, ensure clarity while maintaining coherence in the palette. The entire composition is housed in a 38.00 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 10.00 mm. The case and integrated bracelet are polished and satin-brushed, reflecting the play of light and structure that defines the Laureato’s visual language.

Both the front and back are protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystals, and the case is rated for 100 metres of water resistance, enabling confident daily wear. This model is powered by the GP03300-2564 calibre, an automatic mechanical movement produced entirely in-house at the Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Like its sibling, the movement is decorated with the full suite of haute horlogerie finishes, including Geneva stripes, circular graining, and hand-applied bevels. Its pink gold rotor is finished with circular Côtes de Genève, and the movement delivers a minimum power reserve of 46 hours.

Final Thoughts

Since its origin in the 1970s, the Laureato has embodied a confident blend of geometry and ergonomics — a watch defined by its octagonal bezel atop a circular plinth resting on a tonneau-shaped case. These latest interpretations not only honour this form, but elevate it with a contemporary fluency that embraces both monochrome clarity and chromatic expression.

With over two centuries of continuous operation and more than 80 patents to its name, Girard-Perregaux remains among the rare Manufactures capable of uniting design, movement, and finish entirely in-house. In the Laureato 38 mm, this integrated mastery results in watches that are not only technically exacting, but emotionally resonant — designed to be worn and quietly admired.
