25 Oct 2023・3 MIN READ
Louis Erard and longtime collaborator Alain Silberstein have a new edition of watches to share but this time, the Le Triptyque collection includes an exclusive tourbillon.

By this point, Louis Erard and Alain Silberstein are more than just longtime collaborators. Their relationship extends beyond a simple friendship that blossomed from a meeting, a chance call or a flash of creativity. The brand calls it a ‘manifest work’, of how it was already written and how it was meant to be. The latest offering by the two masterminds sparks the introduction of a tourbillon, a first in Louis Erard’s catalogue.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE TOURBILLON

The story of Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein has spanned three episodes — beginning with the first edition back in 2021 — but the new Le Triptyque Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki collection carry a few special meanings for both.

For Louis Erard, it’s the brand’s first tourbillon and perfectly matches its goal of making the inaccessible accessible. Coupled with how a tourbillon is the pinnacle of fine mechanical watchmaking patented by Breguet, Silberstein deems it only natural to be the inaugural gesture for Louis Erard — but with a twist of their own. The two had put the tourbillon into orbit and paired it with a regulator, symbolising the chronometric science that Louis Erard has made its own signature.

As for Silberstein, the tourbillon symbolises a different kind of time: “The time that never stops.” After all, the watch architect has been using the tourbillon in classic configurations throughout his career, from as early as the mid-90’s.

Another interesting story that resulted from this collaboration revolves around the tourbillon’s manufacturer, Olivier Mory of BCP Tourbillons in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Mory first trained in mass production watchmaking before becoming interested in fine watchmaking. A behind-the-scenes personality, he built a bridge between the two worlds, making the inaccessible accessible.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE COLLECTION

Le Triptyque Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki set of 3 box

For starters, the Le Triptyque Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki is a set of three watches. Two of them are individually available for purchase, though still in a limited edition of 178 pieces. The number has served as Louis Erard’s mantra, representing that ‘together we are stronger’.

However, 78 of those pieces are reserved for the triptych set: La Semaine Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki; Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki; Le Régulateur Tourbillon Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Khaki. These three watches are only available as a set in a triptych box, limited to, as mentioned, 78 strict sets.

As the name suggests, the watches sport an all-over khaki tone, from the dial to the straps. Why? Well, in the words of its designers — Alain Silberstein and Manuel Emch, Artistic Director and CEO of Louis Erard watches — khaki is the colour of the moment that “most strongly embodies the spirit of Louis Erard” and sums up the message of modern watchmaking.
