NOMOS Glashütte can be categorised as a household name in the German watchmaking space with a wide array of different collections to choose from. In conjunction with Watches of Switzerland and its 60th anniversary celebrations, NOMOS has unveiled a special edition to one of more popular pieces, the Metro Date Power Reserve. This features an all-new design and colour scheme for the watch while NOMOS now becomes the latest to join the list of brands that have collaborated with Watches of Switzerland.
The special edition Metro Date Power Reserve by NOMOS Glashütte drew inspiration from life within a tropical rainforest. Instead of the usual white dial, it is now bathed in a lush deep green shade. However, green isn't the only shade NOMOS went with as the dial design is defined by the minute marker in yellow in its own sub-seconds dial at 6 o'clock.
The power reserve indicator on the watch is off-centred, right above the hour and minute hands. Located right above it is a red dot that also acts as the 12 o'clock hour marker. It resides under the red '60' on the dial, which is NOMOS special congratulatory message to Watches of Switzerland on celebrating its 60th anniversary in the Pacific region.
There's a date window located at 6 o'clock on the dial that utilises an innovative date mechanism, which has the date ring encircling the movement. It's coated in a lighter shade of green and is offset by white numerals, giving off a clean and minimalist look on the wrist. The watch itself is tucked away in a 37 mm stainless steel case to go with its striking wire lugs.
These lugs keep the NOMOS Metro Date in place with help from a unique strap that was specially made in collaboration with Delugs. The Grigio Pueblo slim strap is lathered in a chocolate brown hue with double-sided stitches in strawberry and banana. A splash of colour on the strap is what complements the overall aesthetic of the Metro Date Power Reserve, which is already striking with a host of colours on the dial.
Housed within the NOMOS Glashütte Metro Date is the brand's very own DUW 4401 calibre alongside its proprietary NOMOS swing system. Unveiled at Baselworld 2014, the NOMOS swing system was created alongside the Technical University of Dresden and has since been partnered alongside the brand's in-house built calibres.
The NOMOS Metro Date has a power reserve of up to 42 hours and is protected by domed sapphire crystal glass on the dial and case back of the watch. There is a special engraving when you turn the watch over, which says, “Limited Edition Metro Watches of Switzerland 60th Anniversary – WOS Nr./60”.
