Finnish independent watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva illuminates the sky in the new Nocturne. This technicolour sensation is a tribute to the ruler of the night and will be available in two versions limited to 30 pieces each.

A Magical Glow

Following on from the technicolour brilliance of the Moomin watches, Sarpaneva dreams up a different vignette. This time, the new Sarpaneva Nocturne makes a visual salute to the ruler of the night. The image of an owl against a night sky is inspired by old theatrical sceneries, especially those at small travelling theatres.  The nocturnal illustration is from the hand of the award-winning Finnish illustrator and graphic novelist, Ville Tietäväinen.

The dial consists of 6 different parts, all finished by hand to ensure the precision of expression. 233 apertures on the dial are hand-painted in 8 different colours using Super-LumiNova to create a captivating glow. Taking centre stage in the new Nocturn watch is the large Sarpaneva moon. Measuring at 11.8mm, the Moon Face also functions as a moon phase indicator, thanks to a rotating cut-out disc on the dial. To top it off, a hand-finished stainless steel index ring ensures the time can be precisely read to the minute.

Characteristically Sarpaneva

Encapsulating this watch is the distinctively shaped Sarpaneva case. The unconventional case form sees undulating concave and convex lines next to a juxtaposition of brushed and polished surfaces. The effect is an original, recognisable case that remains straightforward and easy to wear. The high-grade stainless steel is sourced locally and comes from Outokumpu, the Finnish company that is the largest stainless steel producer in Europe.

Inside, the reliable Soprod A10 movement powers the watch. Running at 4Hz, it has 42 hours of power reserve. Backing the moonphase indicator is an in-house modification added to the base movement. The rhodium-plated, perlage finished movement with the distinctive Sarpaneva Moonface winding rotor is fully visible through the sapphire crystal with multi-AR coating on the inside. The watch is double secured with a water-resistant screw-down crown and is water resistant to 10 ATM.

The new Sarpaneva Nocturne is available in two versions: White Glow moon with steel rhodium two-tone Super-LumiNova painted hands, and Orange Glow (Harvest) moon with pitch black two-tone Super-LumiNova painted hands. Each version is limited to 30 pieces only.
